sympathy.jpg

Our deepest sympathy is extended to the family of Janice Garner Humes.  She died on April 15, 2010.  Her memorial service was conducted on June 19 at Karlo-Feucht Funeral Home across from Sunset Hills on Everhard Road.  Pastor Tim Borwn officiated the funeral.  Janice was a long time member with her husband Wendell "Buck" Humes before she and her husband retired to New Port Richey, Florida.  Janice was active in the church and the Board secretary back in the 1970's.

Senior Luncheon

The luncheon in June will be on the 23rd and we will go to Canal Fulton for a Canal Boat Ride.  Everyone should meet at the church at 11:15 a.m. to car pool.  The cost for seniors is $6.00.

Remember to Call the Church
When You're in the Hospital

If you are at the hospital overnight or just for the day and desire a visit from the pastor or an elder, please be sure to notify the church.  Sometimes the hospital notifies us a couple days later or not at all.  We really do want to be with you during your time of need.

Hand Sanitizer

is available at the podium at the back of the sanctuary in the Narthex for you to use during this flu season.  If you or your children have any of the symptoms of the flu, please be considerate and stay home and get well.  This will help in not spreading the flu.

Just Today

Do not fret for the morrow,
Today is in your hands,
God takes care of tomorrow,
And all that it demands.

The now is very precious,
It never came before.
God means for you to use it,
Before He gives you more.

Our wise and loving Savior,
Knows well what you can do.
While He cares for tomorrow,
This day He gives to you.

Annual Church Picnic

Mark your calendar for August 22, following the worship service.  We will have our picnic in the church yard or inside in case of bad weather.  Games and activities are being planned for everyone.

New Member

We welcome new member Ellen Hershey to our church family.  Ellen was former Office Secretary here and has attended and considered First Christian as her church home.  On Sunday, June 13, Ellen came forward to reaffirm her faith and to become a member of First Christian.

Thank You

My family and I would like to thank the congregation for their support over the last nine years as your pastor.  We have made many friends and together we have done many good ministry events and services.  We will miss you.  I pray the Lord's blessings for all of you.  Remember the Lord is faithful.

With the financial situation of some of our members and the community, please remember to donate to the Helping Hands fund so the church will be able to help during these difficult days.

Notes from the June 9 Board Meeting

The Board met with Rev. Steve Bentley about the selection process for the interim minister.  He brought a couple of profiles on potential interim pastors.  A search committee is being formed to conduct interviews.

Trustees will be using Hansel Paving to repair the back parking lot.

Trustees informed the Board that Ron and Criss Davis have been hired as our interim custodians.

Busy Hands Ministry

Genevieve Zavasky, through her compassion and love for those less fortunate, started Busy Hands a few years ago.  Our purpose is to supply hats, scarves, and mittens to grade school children in Massillon who have none.  We also make lap afghans for people in nursing homes and homeless shelters.

On February 13, 2009, Genevieve went home to be with our Lord.  We know she would want this ministry to continue.  In order for that to happen, we need your help.

If anyone, women, men, or teens has the talent to crochet or knit - or would like to learn, we would love to have you join us.  Don't have this talent or desire to learn this craft?  We could use any donations of yarn or a small monetary gift.  Our meetings will be the last Monday of the month, starting March 30, from 7-9 p.m. at the church.  If you would rather crochet or knit at home, yarn can be picked up at the church.  If you have any questions, contact Marie Baker or Darlene Berquist.

Please join us in keeping this ministry going.  You will feel so blessed helping someone less fortunate.  Thank you and God bless you.
